Why Should A Drug Dealer Drive A Nice Car And Not The Man Of God?

“……………..I made a whole mess of my whole restoration process in the first year with Pastor Brian …I don’t know how on earth he still talks to me to this day…but he does..he’s a great man.

But you know ..my life got so frantic.

And then one night ..it just got really worse, ’cause I switched on the news in the middle of the Hillsong Conference…and there was a radio announcer called Ray Hadley ..going off at Brian and me.

I mean..just going off…about nothing.

“Who are these guys….all this Hillsong Church ….rahhhhh…rahhhh… it’s all about money ..blah blah blah…’

Let me tell you something about Hillsong church, it’s not all about money..it’s about people.

And anytime you read something negative..let me tell you about those people, they’re good..Godly wonderful people. You won’t find a greater, honourable, loving, caring church environment in this country, except for this one, than Hillsong Church.

It’s a great place, you ought to support it and get behind ‘em.

And when those media people write negative stuff, you write ‘em right back and say “that’s not true in Jesus’ name.”

You read..they whinge about us asking people to give 10% of their income.

Good Lord! You pay 10% every time you go eat somewhere…….G-S-T.

If you took the church out of the community today, 95% of the welfare would collapse in a heap.

But the media will criticise. They won’t criticise when a yacht falls apart at the Sydney to Hobart yacht Race……they spend 25 million on one of those things..

But a little church spend whatever on something…..or a little preacher have a nice car…nice watch.. maybe given to him….or even if he buys it ..

Do you know what? Can I make a statement? Let me make a statement while I’m here. Why not?

You know what…..If a preacher can drive a nice car, why not?

Why should a drug dealer drive a nice car and not the Man of God?

Why can’t the preacher have the nice clothes, and why can’t the preacher have the good stuff.

‘He’s supposed to be a Man of God.’

That’s right, that’s why he should have it …because when you read this Book, God’s man and God’s woman weren’t all running around broke. There was a few of them that had poverty …but a few of them……but a lot of them had a lot of nice stuff.

Why should it be that a man or a woman of God that works for 20 or 30 years …should have nothing to show for it?

Right, you ought to pay your pastor well.

Bible says…’give him double honour’.

Well, that went down well..

He ought to receive double honour.

Why? Because he cares for your soul.

This is really quiet all of a sudden in here. I might just stay here for a little while.

He deserves double honour.

‘Well, what about me?’ We’re not talking about you ..we’re talking about him.

We’re talking about…if you look after God’s man. Look after God’s woman. When you look after them, God looks after you. It’s a principle of the Word of God. You look after ‘em, you bless ‘em.

And so many people out there in TV, on news and media, they want to criticise the Man of God ’cause they got a nice watch or drives a nice car..my Lord.. after working 40 years you ought to have something to show for it…if you didn’t …you ought to be criticised.

That’s how I figure it……………..”

Offering Evangelism

Thursday 12 October, 2006 - 17:21 by Hill$ong Squad in Default

Pastor Greg French
Christian City Church
Oxford Falls
10am service Sunday October 8,2006.
"Right now, we're just going to take our tithes and offerings and give them to the Lord.
So, if you give by credit card at all, you'll find on your newsletter a tear-off slip.
If you don't have a newsletter and you give by credit card, just raise your hand right now, and one of our attendants will look after you.
If you give by cheque, just make out the cheque to 'CCC', and if you give by EFTPOS, there's an EFTPOS machine at the rear of the auditorium...and if you want to give by cash...there is an ATM out in the foyer as well.
Hey, the Christian life is all about giving ...is it not?
Talk about giving. Who was here last week?
Wasn't that great? Just let me say this. We've had an incredible number of emails coming in about the ideas and strategies that people have about how to reach people, how to touch people, how to change them, and not just say it, but actually do it.
And this has been an incredibly exciting week to see all the initiatives that our church is actually taking on board.
But the Christian life is all about prayer, all about spiritual experiences..and it's actually people lead to those experiences ...people have actually touched their life somehow.
And a lot of times, that's through doing, or just investing what you have in another person's life.
And I want to tell you a story...to again...to illustrate the giving life.....
Is that a gentleman came to our Real Men's Conference about two months ago ..and he came along....friend of his who lives in Newcastle...and a friend of his says 'look...I'm going to a men's conference down in Sydney, I'd like you to come.'
He said 'why would I want to go to a men's conference ...I mean...guys don't go to conferences for men...what do we need to know?'
He said...well...to cut a long story short ...'I ended up going...I didn't really want to go ...I'm not a Christian...don't go to church ...you know ..I've got very strong beliefs about Christianity and all of that stuff..and I just believe we are who we are ..and that's it...once you're dead..you're dead..it's all over. Anyway..came to the conference..and when I got here I was really surprised ...because when I got here..I thought there might be a handful of guys..like 12 or 14 guys ...and there was literally thousands of guys here ....that really surprised me. I then I got into it..and like wow.. this is a church, it doesn't like look like a church ...this is not my interpretation of what church should be ...or my understanding of what church should be ..and I came here..and it blew me away'.
'And anyway...it was all great ..and then we sat down..and then some guy stood up and said..now we're going to take an offering ..and I thought....ah....I knew it was coming ...I knew it was going to come ...of course ..they want my money.'
He said...'my friend had actually paid my rego to come ..and I came along...and I was here..and then they wanted to take an offering.'
And he said...'Greg...you gotta understand ...I'm not a giver..I just don't give.' He said...'people have a problem in life ..then financially..it's their problem..not mine.'
Anyway...he came along..and he said the offering was going on..and he was talking ..and then the offering buckets came around...just to put their money in... and he said..'I don't even know why I did it... I just put 20 bucks in...just threw 20 dollars in the offering.'
He said 'it is the most incredible experience I've had in my entire life ....to actually put some money..into an offering.'
He said...'this incredible sense, this peace..this life ..that I've never experienced before ...happened as soon as I gave it.'
'And that really amazed me....I was sort of like... numbed and dumbfounded through the whole time.. I don't know what actually happened that night ...but anyway..went home...and I wasn't intending to come back on the Saturday ...but my friend....we drove home that night up to Newcastle...next morning he phoned up ..and said......do you want to come...and I said ...yep I'll come...and I came along to the conference....not intending to come...came along to the conference on Saturday.'
'During the conference..I was thinking ...great...sessions were great..and then the offering came along...and again I thought... what if I give 50 bucks...what'll happen? So I put 50 dollars in the offering ..and this incredible sense of life and enjoyment....it was an amazing feeling ...just by giving.
And again..the afternoon.....still don't know what happened....I was caught on this giving thing ...and then the final offering came along ..and I gave again..and it's literally changed my life. I was not a church person ...I was not into God at all and anything.'
'I went back to Newcastle..my friend asked me along to church......I went to church next weekend...I thought..I wonder if it works in this place.' (laughter)
'Came along, and this incredible sense, this amazing sense ..like...just by giving. And he said...also Greg...need to let you know ....3 weeks after that ...I actually made my decision to give my life to Jesus.'
Now ..that says something...let's put our hands together church. (applause).
God works in mysterious ways. But there's a basic principle there, I believe, which is a part of.........Jesus came from the Father to the Earth....the Father gave the Son to us, to the world. God gave to us.
In giving to the world, we give our life to Him. And in giving our life to Him ...He then gives us the Holy Spirit. And then we give what we have to another person.
The common denominator is giving, not just receiving, but giving..and I want to tell you and encourage you in this whole area ...that you know, our Christian life ....like last weekend we had a phenomenal weekend...people have got these great ideas of ...again..like for people who weren't here last week..what we've done as a church....we've given every Connect group $100 to go out and to gather other people around them..who want to give into a project..to meet someone's need out there....whether it's financial..whether it's medical...to actually get money together to go and bless someone out in the community...and say...'we want to help you'....and we'll tell you a little bit more about that later.
But all of that..the whole idea of this is just giving...'cause it releases people...it releases you more than you realise.
A couple of years ago, Julie and I were having an anniversary and we were out for dinner ..and we're out..and we're at a really nice restaurant...and we're at this restaurant and we're sitting down..and during our meal ...I saw this young couple come in.....this guy and girl...probably in their mid-20's came in.
And he had a suit on..and it just looked like he didn't wear a suit all that often.
You know a person..who doesn't wear a suit..and they put a suit on..and they look like they  don't really wear a suit.
You know what I'm saying?
But he was at a nice classy place, and this girl came in too and she'd been dressed up and she looked fantastic ..and she was wearing these really high heels ...but obviously..she didn't wear high heels like that all the time either.
And they both came in and looked sort of awkward and out of place in some ways, being in this place.
Anyway....the waiter sat them down at their table ..and they're sitting there..and just chatting away ..and they're looking at the menu..and when they look at the menu they see the prices..and the guy go to his wallet and go...ohh...and counting the notes in his wallet..and put it back...and during the whole meal ...everytime they were going to order something ...he'd go to his wallet ..and check his wallet to see how much it was going to cost.
But obviously..it's a special moment for them...he'd saved his money..wanted to take his girlfriend out.. who knows..he might have been there to propose...I don't know..
Anyway...during that ..I said to Julie...let's just bless them ....let's just pay for them ...pay for their meal.
I went over to the guy at the counter..and I said....see that table....don't look at them..and I don't want you to tell them....there's a young couple sitting opposite where we are...and he said 'oh...table so-and-so'..and I said 'yep'.
I said...I want to pay for their whole meal tonight ...I just want to pay for it..and he goes.....'you want to what?' (laughter).
I said..'I want to pay for their meal...I want to pay for it'.
He said, 'you want to pay for their meal?'
Now this is fine dining..this is a pretty classy place ..'I have not encountered this...normally ....certainly sir..no problems.'
This guy was flabbergasted. It's like..'why..no-one does that'.
He said...'I've never seen that..I've been in this place for years....I've never seen that before.'
And I thought...it's that a tragedy in itself.
I said...'no ..I want to do that.. and he said 'you don't want to tell them?' and I said 'no ...I don't want to tell them..I want to bless them.....obviously they've got a really special occasion and I'd like to bless them.
He goes 'allright..ok'...so I paid the bill..and anyway sat down..and as we sat down... we're continuing eating our meal...and you know....just watching this guy ...the dessert's came along..and he had all his money out this time ...counting it like..and the bill came over ..and he goes...'oohhhh..' like..you know ...and putting it back in his wallet.
Anyway..he got up there..and went over and the guy presented him the bill ..and he's looking at his money..and looking at the bill ..and going .'oh'..
And anyway..the guy said ...'no..it's been paid for.'
And the guy went...'what?'
'It's been paid for'. He said, 'someone in the restaurant just wanted to bless you here'.
He said...'who?'
And he said...'they don't want to be known..they just want to keep it quiet.'
And the guys like...he's looking around the restaurant. (laughter)
'Who was it?' Now no-one's looking at him..but you should have seen the smile on their face.
But you know what? As much as they were blessed, Julie and I felt fantastic being able to do that for a young couple.
Totally unknown, totally unknown..(applause) and it's this giving thing ...and you know...we have been educated every week in giving through tithing.
God knows the principle that unlocks our life to touch people's world.
If we didn't tithe...I could guarantee we'd be stodgy ..scroogey up....very restrictive ...like we'd hold on to everything.
Tithing helps release us in life, helps us in every area.
It's not just about money...giving ...you'll receive financially ...but it'll open your life amazingly ..it may lead people to the knowledge of Christ ...it may change your world, that's what giving's all about.
Amen, let me pray for you here this morning in your giving ..that maybe you've given out of obedience..and well done...but let me say ...why don't you allow this morning..to be a morning where you feel some of that release of what giving can do in your life here.
Close your eyes, and let me pray for you.
Lord, I thank you ..that you gave your Son to the world ..and Lord...we gave our life to you ..and..you gave us the Holy Spirit ...and we give your Son and the Holy Spirit to others.
Father I thank you that in our giving ..Lord...we are changing and releasing people's lives ..and also...we unlock our world.
The basic principle of giving is to help us....keep an open mind and an open heart ...and Lord, we are the hands that touches and changes people's lives.
Today Father in our giving.. our finances go to such to change people's lives ...and transform their world ..and today in Jesus' mighty name...I pray that every person in their giving today ..would feel a new sense...a freshness at giving to You.
And everybody said Amen. God bless you...thank you very much attendants."

Everybody say "10%"

Christian City Church
Oxford Falls
Sunday 1 October 2006
10am service
Pastors Phil Pringle and Pat Mesiti
(Phil Pringle) ....So now we're going to receive our tithes and offerings ....so I want you to get ready to give.. this morning...and if you need an envelope because you use a credit card for giving.. just raise your hand ..otherwise on a newsletter, there's a tear off strip...you can fill out your details on that.
We have an EFTPOS machine up the back...of if you're on the internet you can give through the web page there.. up on the right hand side..you'll find an area there for giving.
I'm going to ask Pat Mesiti just to come and share around the offering this morning. Amen. Give Pat a big hand would ya? (applause) In fact next Sunday morning, I've asked Pat to preach here, he's going to preach about reaching the world. Amen. God bless ya.
(Pat Mesiti) Amen church. You love the Lord? Oh good ...(inaudible) You love the Lord? ('Yeah')
Jesus said an interesting thing in the bible. I'll have to give you a little bit...what prompted that thought.
Little while ago I was talking to someone ..and they said...they said, 'Pat, I'm a Christian.'
'And so, well, how do you define if you are a Christian?'
And they said 'well, you know, I kinda go to church.'
And I said, 'well that's really cool.' But, people ..don't read the bible say really dumb things. And you would agree with that.
Jesus said this, that if you love me, do what I say.
Obedience is really the sign that we are lovers of Jesus. Can I get an 'Amen'?
How many of you are married? Raise your hands.
How many of you husbands have learned to obey your wife? (laughter)
We Italians have got it figured out. we say 'the man is the head, but the woman is the neck that turns him around'. (laughter)
In Malachi Chapter 3, come with me to this awesome passage of scripture.
Pastor Phil is a modern day revivalist, would you agree with that?
I really believe that....can we give our pastor a hand, he's a modern day revivalist. (applause)
And one of the keys to the outpouring of heaven ....we've had a lot about prayer ..and today we're gonna hear about something else and next Sunday I want to really share about getting the salt out of a shaker and making a difference in our world..and can you please bring friends.
I want to see people saved.
But here in Malachi Chapter 3...it shows us this incredible insight into opening up the windows of Heaven.
Not just prayer and telling people and acts of mercy, but God right here says this...he says 'will a man rob God?'
Now the first thing is ..how do you take away from God?
It isn't that we go to God ..and take that...because in actual fact, God really enjoys it when you take something of Him into your world.
When you take grace from His throne ..into your world...God enjoys it... can I get an Amen? ('Amen')
But here's the concept...if you look at the Hebrew scripture ...it is a picture of a goblet with a lid on it. And the way we rob God is we put a restriction on what God loves to do. Which is what? Blessing.
And it says, 'will a man restrict, will a man block God.'
Here you say, how have you robbed me? And God says 'in tithes and offerings'.
And then He says this, 'Bring all the tithes into the storehouse.'
Everybody say 'all the tithes' ('all the tithes')
Everybody say 'all the tithes' ('all the tithes')
What is a tithe? Let me explain. The tithe...is 10 per cent.
Everybody say '10 per cent' ('10 per cent').
10 per cent.
God says, 'Bring me what's mine ...bring me that 10 per cent.'
If you're in a business deal...and someone said to you, 'you know what....I'm going to let you keep 90 per cent, just give me 10, how many of you think that would be a great business deal?
And God says '10 per cent'.
Now some people might say, 'yeah, that's Old Testament that's under law.'
Oh, no, no, no, no.
This is pre-law, this is under the Malchizadek priesthood, who is a type of Jesus.
We are bringing out tithes, the bible says, unto Jesus.
10 per cent. Now why 10 per cent?
You see, if God set an amount, it would not be fair, correct? It wouldn't be fair if God said 'bring a thousand dollars to the storehouse every week.' It wouldn't be fair.
But God is a God who is a just and righteous God.
He said, 'bring a percentage', so that the person who's earning a thousand dollars a week or a hundred thousand dollars a week ...I had a gentleman in Malaysia one day say to me this...he said 'if I bring my tithe to the church every week' ...he said (inaudible) ...he said 'I'd have to be bringing ten thousand dollars a week into the tithe'.
And I said 'would you like me to pray that you only have to give a hundred dollars a week'? (laughter)
It's all relevant. Say 'Amen or ouch'.
See, and here it is, it's not my tithe, language is so important, it's His tithe, and the tithe, literally is a sign that God is really Lord and master over all. That is the symbol of the tithe.
Three things it does to you, it brings you protection.
Second thing it does, it opens up the windows of Heaven.
Listen to what it says here. Look at this church.
'If I will not open up for you the windows of Heaven and pour out for you such a blessing, there will not be room enough to receive it.'
You know as I was driving to church this morning, I always try and prepare my spirit for the offering message, just in case.
I always say honestly every Sunday when I'm  in church ...I always do ..because...I know Pastor Phil.
But you know I was just preparing my heart, and I said, 'Lord, if I were to do the offering this morning, what could I say that would encourage people?
And here's what I believe the Holy Spirit spoke to my spirit about.
"Tell my people, I don't understand the concept of 'just enough'."
God doesn't get that concept ...because wherever God does a miracle...listen to me church, the loaves and the fishes, there'll be 12 baskets left over...for everybody.
When he taught out from the widow's miracle ..of the widow's oil ...there..they filled the jars ..and there was so much there...she could have kept pouring today if she was alive. What an amazing thing.
When God does it, He's a God of more than enough, his name is El Shaddai, the God of plenty, not El Cheapo, the Lord, the Tightwad. (laughter)
How many of you thank God for that?
And I want us to understand that this morning.
Let's bring all the tithes, not half of it, a quarter of it, all the tithes ..and God says 'I'll pour open Heaven'
'I don't understand the concept of just.....I wanna pour out abundance.'
But don't restrict Him.
Father, we thank you for our ability to be able to give to you. I thank you for this House, I thank you for what you're doing. I thank this House, your building, we're working with you.
Lord I ask you to bless every tither, every obedient tither ...as they bring your store out of every offering, in Jesus' name.
If you need an envelope this morning, please raise your hand.
If you want to give by credit card, at the back of the room there is an EFTPOS machine there, if you'd like to give through EFTPOS machine.
If you're writing out a cheque, please make it payable to Christian City Church.
God bless you church as you give."

I'm A Christian Hedonist

Tuesday 12 September, 2006 - 15:49 by Hill$ong Squad in Default

views (376) | rating ooooo (0 votes)

Pastor Simon McIntyre
Christian City Church, Oxford Falls.
Sunday September 10, 2006.
10am service
"1 Timothy Chapter 6...and verse 17.
And...we read these words....which are very easily misinterpreted....both by the rich and the poor.
"Tell those who are rich in this world ..not to be proud ..and not to trust in their money ...which will soon be gone. But that trust should be in the Living God ...who richly provides us with all things for our enjoyment. Tell them to use their money to do good. They should be rich in good works..and give generously to those in need...always be ready to share with others whatever God has given them."
Now just before we take up our offering ...don't forget to use the......if you're using credit cards ....there is a tear-off slip in your newsletter. There are envelopes..otherwise..if you need them ...and then we also have internet and EFTPOS facilities at the back of the hall later ..if you need those as well. If you haven't got a newsletter with a tear-off slip ...just raise your hand if you're using a credit card...and there'll be somebody around who'll help you out. Fantastic.
Do you know this? Let me help you this morning in your giving. Very simple issue here. Rich people can read that..and feel condemned that they are rich. Poor people can read that ..and condemn the rich for being so...and they can be smug in their poverty. And middle class people..who are usually on the way up or down can have their own opinions as well.
But you know.....the scripture is not actually beating up about money.
It's directing how we use it...and what God benefits in our lives...because of it. And here's the very simple issue I want to say. And it's like this.
To those of us....who comparitively with the rest of the world ...are very rich people ...when you compare....so let's just do it like that today. We're all rich. God has blessed us....and it's a fact. We love in a wonderful land ...with many privileges ...and many opportunities. We are never to feel that we are hard done by.
But you know something...is if I try to enjoy my money ..without being generous towards God ....my money will make a mockery of me ..and it will enjoy me.
But if I am generous towards God ...then I will truly enjoy whatever's left over.
And I love this scripture...because it's just not saying 'give your money away'. It's saying 'this is what God's like to those who are generous...this is God's nature'.
If I am generous..if you are generous...this is God..this is His nature.
You understand ..whenever the bible talks about God ...it doesn't just talk about a concept ...it talks about God in some way relating to us.
So here it goes. 'God who richly provides everything for our enjoyment.'  When I am generous ...the God who richly provides for my enjoyment .. comes to the party in my life.
Now I love that.. 'cause it says ...'richly provides for all things'.....not for our 'p-r-r-r-ractical use Hallelujah' ...not for further giving necessarily ...but to also enjoy.
If you want to enjoy your money, then be generous first. If you want to get run over by your money, then don't be generous...because no matter how much you've got..you won't be able to enjoy it. But if you're generous towards God ..and this is what I'm teaching you this morning....if we are generous towards God ..then what God allows us...or what we keep..we'll enjoy.
It's just not for bills. There's something that God provides for you to just jolly well enjoy it.
Now years ago I wanted to get my pilot's licence. And I said to the Lord this profoundly dumb thing. I said, 'if you help me get my licence, I'll use it for Your glory.'
To which I heard...like an impression came to me ...'if you've got to bribe me... don't bother asking.'
So my instructor said to me...so I went and did aerobatics ...and to think that's the sort of thing I'm going to do.
So I went..and he said to me 'Padre'...he said, 'are you using this for missionary flying?' And I said 'no you idiot'.
I said 'I'm using it because I like flipping upside down in the sky..and I feel the pleasure of God when I'm having fun.'
But you know I wouldn't if I wasn't generous. I wouldn't if I wasn't putting God first. I'd feel guilty. I'd feel maybe I wasn't doing right .
But if you are generous towards the Almighty ...He will almightly bless you ..in a way that you could enjoy yourself.
I know guys in this church who are great givers..and they went..and one of them recently went and bought himself a big boat. You know what I say? Good on ya.
And if anybody says...'oh, tut, tut, tut, hallelujah, you ought to be giving to the poor'....you ought to see what the guy gives anyway. Then you zip your mouth....and go and play with your floaties in your own bath. (congregation - laughter)
He enjoys it. When I'm in the air ...particularly by myself, because whenever I've got passengers ..I'm always thinking..'oh...I hope they're enjoying this ....oh..they look very....ohhhh..they're going to me...whoa..get out the bag'.
But when I'm up there...I'm just by myself and chuckle to myself ...because I'm flying upside down..I'm pulling about
5 G's in a corner or something ...I'm thinking ...'oh..I'm just enjoying this. I'm just enjoying it'.
So, if we're generous towards God, we'll enjoy our lives. And if we're not...then we'll be playing in the bath ..with a rubber duckie...and we'll getting model aeroplanes and going neeeeeeee 'round in our heads.....or whatever the case may be.
So let's pray...I'm not trying to be....I'm a Christian hedonist. You know what that means? I'll explain it to you another time. (laughter).
Thank you Jesus ..for you have blessed us. We live in a wonderful country ..and most of us..if not all of us..have got a job to go to ..and a home to go to.
So we thank you right now that we give to you...we are generous towards you ..and you'll become the God who richly provides everything for our enjoyment. That's your name. We thank you for this privilege in Jesus' name, Amen.
Thank you church"

Christian City Church, Oxford Falls
6pm service, Sunday February 19, 2006

(Phil Pringle) “I know a lot of you were not in this morning’s service…and I need your attention ….I need your full attention people…I need you to be looking this way ..and listening….thank you very much.

Because this morning I made an announcement …and in last night’s service..that I need to make again and .. it’s a great announcement …a very joyful announcement.

About four-and-a-half years ago …there was an evangelist in this country by the name of Pat Mesiti.

Most of you I think will know of him.. some of you may not.

He had a television program and was regularly conducting crusades ..where through..500/1500 people would come to Christ.

He was an initiator of many great youth programs, including Youth Alive here in New South Wales… and accomplished a huge number of things for the nation ..in the realm of evangelism and.. touching people’s lives with the gospel.

However, four-and-a-half years ago, Pat had a terrible, terrible tumble….a moral collapse which resulted in his marriage breaking ..and ..was a sad moment.

He was taken out of ministry…and ..stepped down.

He was an ordained minister in the Assemblies of God ..and after attempting to retrace..recover ..and after a year…it seemed it wasn’t going quite how it was anticipated.

So Brian Houston and myself..who are good friends ….I said….look…I’ll put my hand up…I’d like to ..help…and I’ve known Pat ..forever and he’s good friends with a lot of the people on this staff …and has been…..and I thought this’d be great if he came..and was in our church…and we would seek to see him standing on his feet again.

A number of years ago…I said to the Lord….’I'm so busy being a pastor….I don’t feel like I’m being a Christian.’

And…that just meant I was so busy leading and preaching ..doing all the stuff I wanted… I felt like…going and handing out pizzas to the homeless in Hyde Park ..or visiting people in old folks’ homes or reading books…or people in prison.

I’ve done all that..and used to teach in a school for handicapped children ….and …I go and visit prisons …just tell them to send up a prisoner if they didn’t have a visitor ..and I’d be there….and they didn’t know me…so.. when you get to be a pastor…you get a lot of other things going on ..

But He said to me …’no you’ve got a church full of people who can do that’……so I pray you do it man…

And He said….’no..no..no..what I want you to do is reach out to people that other people can’t reach out to..and that’s pastors …who are having troubled times…

And so…I try to do that…and there’s a few …who…I have no judgements on men and women who’ve found their life in trouble ….

Who knows what pressures they’re facing and what things they’ve gone through …but I do know they need to be recovered and restored.

And there is a pathway for that…repentence …restoration…restitution ..and making things right.

So Pat came….and I said to him…’Pat ..I want you to do several things…..one….turn up to church..’

And even with the shame and the awkwardness and the emotional difficulty of all that …I said ..’that’s what you’ve gotta do’.

Because the church is the best place you can be…rather than a counselling room ….just being in the worship…being in the local church …being involved in some ministry …of serving in the House.. all of those things are the best healing processes you will ever find yourself engaged in….because you’re forced to modify your behaviour and get things right and overcome …and all kinds of things….and relate to people…

And then just the Spirit of God working amongst us..

I believe in the power of the local church …it is the most powerful thing on Earth …to actually affect all sorts of things in people’s lives.

So Pat did that..and one year after his marriage had broke…he met a lady called Andrea ..and I was happy to participate in their marriage …three….two-and-a-half years ago …two years ago? Two years ago ….and that was a really joyful occasion.

And Pat and Andrea served in the visitors’ lounge …helping us there …and have continued to be involved… in our church over that time.

And he’s been relating to Greg French….Simon McIntyre ..Mark Kelsey and myself …over that period of time.

We’ve had times where we’ve needed to say things…or help him understand things..or whatever ..and Pat has been exemplary in all his ways of handling it.

I have tried this with a number of ministers and leaders over the years ..and I’ve got to say not without a lot of success.

It’s been unfortunate..because people find it difficult ..find it tough to recover…old steps.

But Pat has really displayed a repentent attitude ..and a commitment to a pathway ..that will bring him fully back into that way…

And the ministry team…we’ve all talked to each other…..and quite satisfied that he has fulfilled all those obligations.

The Assemblies of God asked him to do three years of restoration……it’s actually been four-and-a-half years now…that he has been out of ministry…and …as I said…we are happy that…

….So in the 10 o’clock service this morning… we laid hands on Pat and Andrea…and restored them to the ministry that God has called them to…(applause)..

In those services……well..actually…only in the 10 o’clock service….I asked Pat just to share something briefly..and he did… and so…I said…I want you to share in that service just briefly…..but what I really want you to do is preach in our church on Sunday night….

So…I want you to welcome Pat Mesiti as he comes…” (applause/cheering/Mesiti hugs Pringle)
